Show me the science – please
June 13, 2010Serving as a member of this board has been an eye opening experience. On Thursday, the board voted that chiropractors are not required to inform patients that cervical spine manipulation puts them at increased risk of stroke or cervical spine dissection. The vote was four to one – and I was the one. I think this vote on their part was very short sighted. The chiropractors want to be main stream health care and yet there is little science to support some of there work. Spinal manipulation on babies for colic? Show me the evidence please. An optometrist recently said that during visits, he puts the patients through a series of tests. He confessed he does not know the benefit of several of them. With each one of us spending more of our own money on health care – show me why before you take my money. I wouldn’t buy a washing machine without reading about it.
