Is shame possible? Adverse events/ hospital specific reporting required

February 24, 2010

Recently the lobbyist for the hospitals said he was surprised that I had suggested that shame worked.  He thought I was a better person than that.  Good grief ….we have tried everything else.  Let’s give shame  and transparency a try.

Senate bill 248  would require that the Department of Public Health’s annual report on adverse events include hospital specific information – the public would know if there was one hospital that had repeatedly left in sponges, or had an inordinate number of falls or bedsores to names just a few examples.
