Despite Years of Effort, "mishaps still happen"
January 20, 2010Mishaps? I do believe that is quite the understatement for the person who dies each day from a medication error. Laura Landro in the Wall Street Journal continues to expose very serious problems. Medication errors cause at least one death every day and injure approximately 1.3 million people annually in the United States according to the Food and Drug Administration. Universal electronic prescribing would certainly help, color coded medications, but in my mind, taking the conflicts of interests out of prescribing patterns of individual physicians should be our first step.
