Nursing Homes Cited After Patient Chokes To Death

April 09, 2012|By JOSH KOVNER, jkovner@courant.com, The Hartford Courant –  State regulators have fined a Torrington nursing home after an elderly patient — who needed assistance while eating – was left unattended and choked to death on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in February, according to inspection records made available Monday.
In the second of several statewide enforcement actions, a Fairfield nursing home was sanctioned after a patient – whose treatment plan required dietary supplements to avert rapid weight loss – lost 43 pounds in 46 days, dwindling to 108 pounds.  Read more
