Sex assault reports rise at state hospitals

Reports of sexual assault and abuse more than doubled over last year at the state’s hospitals, an annual review of accidents and errors shows.

Overall, the state Department of Public Health’s 2016 adverse events report, released, Wednesday, notes that reports of all errors and incidents dropped by 5 percent at the hospitals. The annual report tracks the number of events in which people were harmed while receiving care at area hospitals.

Reports of sex abuse and assault shot up between 2015-2016, according to the report. The state reported 24 sexual assaults and abuses at hospitals in 2016 — up from 10 the year before.  Read More
